ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management (formerly the Journal of Hospitality & Leisure Marketing), is a stimulating, provocative, trustworthy, and definitive publication for academics, consultants, practitioners, and policymakers. This unique journal creatively contributes to the academic’s teaching and research; provides consultants with conceptual and application-oriented articles helpful in defining client problems and constructing programmatic solutions; and offers practitioners theoretical principles explained in a way that will assist them in using their limited marketing resources more productively. This journal also helps public policymakers and public officials at all levels to clarify problems, organize research, establish priorities, and produce recommendations to deal with issues of public concern.

 

The purpose of Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management is to promote a platform for practitioners and academicians to present and discuss the research, theory, and practical solutions relating to marketing and management. This journal strives present the latest research, state-of-the-art reviews, and analyses of marketing and management practices within the hospitality industry. Leading international practitioners and researchers contribute research papers, research notes, discussion papers, and viewpoints to enhance and further understanding about the hospitality industry. This journal provides a platform where hospitality professionals and academics exchange and get expert perspectives on crucial hospitality issues.

Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management seeks papers that are novel, integrative, written in a way that focuses on hospitality marketing and management issues and accessible to a hospitality audience. Content of the journal ranges from the applied to the theoretical. In general, papers should cover topics relating to the crucial hospitality issues, including consumer buying behavior and marketing; decision-making processes; forecasting; operational management; financial management; marketing management; international issues; cross-cultural research; ethical concerns in marketing and management; analyses of environmental, social; cultural economic impacts; impacts of demographic, social, and technological trends and changes; development of conceptual models and constructs; and future trends in hospitality marketing and management.

 

We invite academic researchers, industrial practitioners, and official policy-makers to contribute technical or managerial papers that are related to the theme of the journal. Both conceptual and empirical papers are welcomed.

Review Articles:
Review articles addressing major “thematic” issues of dialectical debate in hospitality marketing and management and review articles in the form of critiques of books, videos, and other information aids or alternative / emergent productions are also welcome (normally of 1,500 to 2,500 words in length). Although the majority of the Review Articles will be commissioned, individuals interested in writing either should first contact the Book Reviews Editor. Uninvited reviews will not be accepted for publication.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

As a scholarly journal, all manuscripts are assessed for possible publication following a double-blind review process. Manuscripts are normally reviewed by three independent assessors with relevant expertise. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically. All rights and permissions must be obtained by the contributor(s). These permissions should be sent upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication.

 

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically.  Manuscripts should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect.  Please send electronic manuscripts to:

All manuscripts must be the original work not yet submitted to any other journals or publications.  Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.  Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher.  All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.  Receipt of manuscripts will be acknowledged and authors should retain a copy of the manuscript exactly as it was submitted.

 

Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts must be prepared in English and free of grammatical, spelling, and/or punctuation errors.  Please make sure the paper is thoroughly edited and proofread before submission. Three or more errors on a single page will result in immediate return of the paper to the corresponding author without further review.  All parts of the manuscript should be double-spaced, typewritten using Times New Roman font size 12 including tables, figures and references, with margins of at least one inch on all sides.  For authors outside North America, make sure the paper is set at 8 ½” x 11” letter-size and NOT the A-4 size.  Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper.

 

Author Information

All author’s details should be printed on a separate sheet and the author(s) should not be identified anywhere else in the article.  Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces.

 

Abstract

All manuscripts must be accompanied by a short abstract of about 150 words and a list of no more than six key words, which define the subject matter.  Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract.

 

All manuscripts should include at least the following sections: introduction, literature review, methodology, results, discussions, implementations, limitations, and conclusions, followed by references, tables, and figures.  Manuscripts should normally not exceed 8000 words (everything included).  Manuscripts must be prepared using APA format.  All references cited in the article must be listed in the References and the names must be spelled correctly in both places (This is one point that often is overlooked).  Please make sure that all tables, figures, and charts are complete, accurate, correctly titled according to APA format, and are correctly referenced in the text.  If any table, figure or chart is taken directly from another publication, you need to include a release (permission to publish) from the original publisher.  Tables, figures, and charts should not be placed in the text. They should be placed after the completed references.

 

References

References, citations, and general style of manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the APA Publication Manual, 4th ed.  Cite in the text by author and date (Smith, 1983) and include an alphabetical list at the end of the article.  Examples:

 

Journal: Tsai, M., & Wagner, N. N. (1978). Therapy groups for women sexually molested as children. Archives of Sexual Behaviour, 7(6), 417-427.

 

Book: Millman, M. (1980). Such a pretty face. New York: W. W. Norton.

 

Contribution to a Book: Hartley, J. T., & Walsh, D. A. (1980). Contemporary issues in adult development of learning. In L. W. Poon (Ed.), Ageing in the 1980s (pp. 239-252). Washington, DC: American Psychological Association.

 

Acknowledgement

Acknowledgement is optional and should appear after the references and before the appendices.

 

Any “appendices” should appear at the end of the article after the list of references and acknowledgement (if applicable).

 

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files.  A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below.  All units must be included.  Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.  Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.

 

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files.  Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • Sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

 

Color Illustrations

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction.  Color art can be purchased for online only reproduction or for print + online reproduction.  Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid.  Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color.  A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.  Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color.  A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.

 

Proofs

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS).  They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.

 

Editorial Processing

All manuscripts undergo an internal review process involving JHMM editors and may include members of the editorial board.  This process can take as long as two to four weeks, after which manuscripts are either rejected or sent into peer review pursuant to possible publication.  Peer review may take an additional eight to ten weeks.  The decision to publish is ultimately predicated upon the outcome of peer review, the judgment of JHMM editors, and, if necessary, a satisfactory editing and/or revision process that meets JHMM standards.

 

Reprints and Issues

Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs.  A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.  Each corresponding author will receive three complete issues in which the article publishes and a complimentary PDF.  This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

·         Consistency in presentation must be maintained throughout the paper. 

 

·         Use tables and simple diagrams which are clearly presented. 

 

·         Please do NOT use footnotes and do NOT list references as footnotes at the end of each page.

 

·         Please make sure the manuscript is thoroughly edited and proof read before submission.

 

·         If the paper does not follow these specifications, it will be rejected!
